Anderson, Spangler win series races in Lovelock

LOVELOCK, Nev. (9-10) – Richard Anderson’s annual pilgrimage to Lovelock Speedway was rewarded with the his career first Evenson Ironman Challenge Series feature win.
Aaron Spangler, meanwhile, won for the second time on the 2012 IMCA Modified tour on night two at Lovelock. Each victory was good for $1,000.
Anderson drew the outside row one start and led all 25 laps of a Saturday show slowed by just two cautions but shortened by track conditions.
The win, Anderson’s first of the season, came ahead of Spangler, Riley Simmons, Jay Sears and Robert Miller, and put him on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star invitational.
“That’s cool, way cool,” Anderson said appreciatively. “It was a real surprise and an honor for me to get on the ballot.”
Shawn LaRocque was the hard charger, starting 22nd and finishing 10th.
Spangler also enjoyed a flag to flag run at the front. Cautions kept lapped traffic out of play in the 30-lapper.
“The track really held up for us on Sunday,” he said. “They really worked hard to give us a good track.
Wade Taylor ran second. Mitch Murphy, Miller and Wyatt Howard rounded out the top five.
“B” qualifiers Jay Sears and Jeff Elerick both improved 11 positions from their places on the original starting grid, to seventh and 10, respectively.
