Aaron Spangler, the 2012 Iron Man Challenge Series Champion

DOVE CREEK, Colo. – After breaking and failing to complete a single circuit under green on opening night, Aaron Spangler figured he was out of the running for the Evenson Ironman Challenge Series crown.
Wrong.
The Dove Creek, Colo., veteran went on a tear from that point, winning four times and finishing in the top five another three of the final eight events. The title of the June 7-16 IMCA Modified tour tilted his way in the finale, when Spangler ended in fifth after point leader Robert Miller was kayoed in an early collision.
“After the first night, I figured we didn’t have a chance at the championship,” Spangler admitted. “But we did everything we could and almost everything went flawlessly for us the rest of the week. I think I qualified out of the heat every time so I made the invert.”
“I only got run into a couple times, we only had to change a couple bars and we only used four-six tires the whole series,” he added.
Each of his feature wins – at Rattlesnake Raceway, Lovelock Speedway, Winnemucca Regional Raceway and Great Basin Speedway – paid $1,000 and all that green meant Spangler finished the week in the black.
“All of my wins and the night we clinched the series championship really stood out,” he said.
“The feature at Summit (on June 14) was a lot of fun too. I was running third, restarted 20th after being part of a yellow and raced back to fourth.”
Spangler raced to the Ironman crown in a Race Fisher ride after his own was totaled in the season opener at Millard County Raceway.
He won five of 32 starts overall on the season and ended the year with 128 IMCA career checkers.
STARTS: 9 WINS: 4 ADDITIONAL TOP 5'S: 3
HIS CREW: Son Camron and father John.
HIS SPONSORS: SBR Race Cars of Dove Creek; Lee Mobile Home Park of Cortez; and Baisch Racing Engines of Rigby, Idaho.
